Tc Bear – This was a fun mascot to create poses for. He has a real puppet-like quality about him. Although the way his costume is built he kind of has a frozen expression on his fave like most mascots have but because of the way he was designed it made it easy for me to kind of mold him pose-wise. I’d love to go further with his face and do some acting but believe it or not I’ve tried that a couple of times on various mascots. Believe me, these teams are million dollar corporations. They are not interested in a lot of variation in terms of expressions or facial expressions! They want their characters happy and looking exactly like their costumed counterparts which is something I completely understand! When it comes to licensing its all pretty much done for the fans. If Joe Shmoe wants to buy a t-shirt that features a mascot, he or she wants that mascot exactly like the thing they saw at the game. This is something I had to learn over the years. My training in one of the premiere art schools in the country in the fine art of comic book art & illustration constantly screams in my head to show expression when I draw a character which I do when producing art for a children’s book or animation but in this instance you have to turn that part of your brain off unless your asked to apply that kind of thing. Luckily this guy is pretty fun as is!
