When Major League Baseball Properties first gave us this assignment we were dealing with some pretty popular preexisting mascots. Our job was to create exciting action poses of the characters, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt for licensing. Great gig right? Luckily for us the Washington Nationals wanted to expand their mascot program with additional characters.LCI got to create two new characters from the ground up. Presidents Taft & Hoover! This was challenging to say the least. Caricatures are tricky. They can either come off insulting or endearing. We weren’t dealing with some airhead celebrities. These were former US presidents. In the end we struck the right balance and came up with 2 fun character concepts… but not too fun. cue the patriotic music!
